Woodsy Photos at Prosser Pines

Long Island, New York is full of amazing trails and places to explore, and as a family photographer I’m always looking for the best spots to take my clients! One of my favorites is the Prosser Pines Nature Preserve - the towering pines make the most amazing backdrop for family photos or maternity sessions, and it’s the perfect place to explore and enjoy being out in nature.

Visiting Prosser Pines is like entering another world - you’ll immediately be surrounded by the breathtaking pine trees and makeshift teepees that are just begging to be explored! This little oasis on Long Island is perfect for kids of all ages, and a great nature getaway from the hustle and bustle.

The History of Prosser Pines

This nature preserve is home to the only white pine forest on Long Island, and it originated in 1812 when a man planted some seedlings on his farm. He later sold his land to George Prosser, who took care of the pine plantation until Suffolk County purchased the plantation and turned it into a nature preserve. Today, Prosser Pines is a unique forest, and the perfect nature getaway on Long Island.

Getting There

The Prosser Pines Nature Preserve is located in Middle Island New York, just over an hour from New York City. All you have to do is take I-495 E to Long Island until you reach exit 66. Then, take Sills Road straight for a little under four miles until you reach the dirt parking lot of Prosser Pines!

Prosser Pines Loop Trail

The main trail at the Prosser Pines Nature Preserve is the Loop Trail - an easy 0.7 mile loop perfect for families and kids of any age. As soon as you step onto the forest, you’ll feel like you were transported to a forested wonderland! The trees stretch far above you, and nothing beats escaping the noise and hustle of everyday life to be surrounded by the quiet of the pines.

The trees aren’t the only attraction of the Prosser Pines Nature Preserve. As you walk along the breathtaking pines, you’ll also notice the unique makeshift teepees made from fallen branches. Kids (and adults!) will love stepping into the teepees and admiring the way the sun peeks through each branch. As you walk along the trail, you’ll also see a neighboring farm with a huge open field. Who knows, maybe you’ll spot some cows!

Family Photos at Prosser Pines

I don’t believe in staged, forced family photos. Your kids aren’t perfectly posed in your day to day life, and photos are supposed to capture and reflect the way you truly are. Prosser Pines is the perfect place to go for your photo session, and not just because the towering trees and woodsy atmosphere make for some beautiful photos - though that’s definitely an added perk! Being outside in nature gives your kids the chance to run around, play, and be themselves, all while your photographer (wink wink… I know a gal) captures the candid magic.

If you’re ready for an adventure and ready to explore Prosser Pines while capturing your sweet memories, reach out! It might sound cliche, but it really does go by so fast, and before you know it, you blink and your kids will be all grown up. Photos are the only way to capture these memories forever, and in a few years you’ll be so glad to look back on memories of when your kids held your hand, ran around, and played with each other.
